Self-Management of Learning: WOW Project
A school-wide effort to highlight and promote understanding and use of 30 key academic words across content areas, by featuring one word per week.
WOW (Word of the Week) Description

wanted the students to be exposed to these words repeatedly and gain an understanding of what these words mean and how they are used in different disciplines.
In order to choose the academic words for the Word of the Week project, teachers first consulted the academic word lists provided by Nina M. and Margaret J. Then teachers in each department were given the opportunity to suggest a list of top 10 academic words in their content area. Words from all departments were then compiled; the top 20 most frequently suggested words were selected for implementation.
