Week #5: Purpose

To help students understand the word purpose, Bev Alsleben and May Yang made a poster and put it up near the office with 4 choices to explain the purpose of the following:

1) a colon (:)
2) an apostrophe (')
3) the letter X
4) a test

They sent an e-mail to staff encouraging them to have kids answer the questions, challenging them to come up with more than 7 uses or purposes for the X.  Prizes were awarded. Winners had the most clearly worded and thorough explanations. Credit was given to some lower level students also.
