I teach Introduction to Visual Arts as well as independent instruction for
advanced students at IA LEAP. I have been teaching in the Minnesota
Public schools for fourteen years. In addition to my public school teaching
experience, I have taught youth at the Walker Art center and designed and
facilitated museum enrichment workshops related to the Pacific Island
and Native American exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. I have also
taught art at the Macalester Institute for talented Youth.
I am a practicing artist. I was a finalist for a Jerome Foundation Grant, I
have a work in the University of Minnesota’s alumni collection at the
Weisman art museum and my work was selected for display at the
Minneapolis College of Art and Design 2006 exhibition called "Extra Credit:
Honoring Minnesota High School Art Teachers".
The students at LEAP are a unique population of very motivated and
talented young adults. They bring skills, experience and sensibilities from
all over the globe. Together we make art that overcomes our lack of a
common language. This teaching experience has truly reinforced my
understanding of the power of the visual world. I feel very honored to teach
these students.
